Boston Red Sox flame-throwing rookie Daniel Bard entered last night’s game in the 9th inning versus the Baltimore Orioles with a 4-0 lead.  Rather quickly, Bard got Nolan Reimold to ground out, then Luke Scott and Melvin Mora both struck out.  What impressed me most was the effortless 99 MPH fastballs and ridiculous sliders he threw to close out the game for the Red Sox 61st win of the 2009 season.

Consider these statistics:

  • Bard yielded 0 Earned Runs in the month of July.
  • Opponents Batting Average over the last 14 innings pitched is .089
  • Strikeout to Walk Ratio is 27 -0

Rex Sox fans who have not become acclimated to Daniel Bard, get used to hearing his name.  Drafted 28th overall (1st Round) in 2006, he is the latest among a long list of homegrown Red Sox players to make a Big League impact.
